Our products are meant to be worn all day and night *, so it's important to follow a few simple guidelines while you carry and care for your device.

To keep your band clean and your skin satisfied, our college of certified dermatologists has given the following tips:

Keep it clean
FOR ELASTOMER BANDS:
Clean your band and wrist regularly, especially after exercise or sweating. Rinse the tape with water. DO NOT use hand soap, body soap, dish soap, hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes or household cleaners that can get stuck under the belt and irritate the skin. Use a soap-free cleaner such as Cetaphil to clean the wristband instead. Always dry the tape well before replacing it.
To remove accumulations of lotions and oils (such as sunscreen, insect repellent and moisturizing creams) that may be under the belt, we recommend using a soap-free cleaner such as Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser or Aquanil. Rinse well and dry thoroughly.
For hard spots, stains or build-up on your tire, scrub with a wet toothbrush with soft hair.
For light colored elastomer accessory bands, minimize direct contact with dark colored clothing, as color transfer may occur.
FOR LEATHER BANDS:
Wipe the tire with a non-abrasive, lint-free cloth. If necessary, lightly moisten the cloth with water. Leather bands are not sweat or water resistant. If you wet them, this can cause discoloration or other damage.

Carefully wipe away excess moisture with a dry, non-abrasive, lint-free cloth and allow the tire to air dry. Direct sunlight, high temperatures and humid conditions can cause discoloration or damage over time.

Keep it dry
Although Excelsior devices are water resistant *, it is not good for your skin to wear a wet tire for a long time.
If your elastomer band gets wet after sweating or showering, rinse and dry it thoroughly before putting it back on your wrist.
Make sure your skin is dry before you re-install your tire.

To minimize damage to your tracker or watch, avoid any direct contact with sunscreen or insect repellent sprays. Remove your device while applying these sprays.
Don't wear it too tight
Make sure your tire is not too tight. Wear the strap loosely enough to move back and forth around your wrist.

Give your wrist a rest
Prolonged rubbing and pressure can irritate the skin, so give your wrist a break by removing the strap for an hour after prolonged wear.
Other tips
If you have eczema, allergies or asthma, you may have a greater chance of skin irritation or allergy from a portable device.
Regardless of whether you have the above conditions or not, if you begin to experience redness or skin irritation on your wrist, you must remove your device. If the symptoms persist for more than 2-3 days when you are not using your device, contact us with a dermatologist.
If you sweat for more than two hours while wearing your Fitbit strap, wash your strap and wrist with the instructions above to prevent skin irritation.
